Chinchorro Museum and New Nuclei in Arica
The project involves the construction, operation and maintenance of a new civil – cultural centre in the city of Arica, both to house the installations of the Regional Government as well as for the creation of the Chinchorro International Museum that seeks to integrate the remnants of the Chinchorro located in the region and project them into the new cultural – heritage zone, situated around a sizeable main square that highlights the image of the city and enhances it on a touristic, economic and cultural level.
The project aims to combine the different public bodies and services, both from the Central as well as Regional Governments, and which are currently spread out all over the city in order to create a new strategic urban nucleus. The aforesaid space is conceived through the fostering of the character of a meeting place for citizens, stretching out around a new main square. Mixed usages are strengthened in this space, which are intertwined with major urban pieces, such as the Chinchorro International Museum and a large-scale cultural area whose aim is the recuperation and integration of former warehouses for railway usage.
